Trades for 6-30-09

I started this morning with 2 losses which totaled -5.04%, but managed to do +.47% by the end of the day. My losses this morning were because I had my stops too far away. I should have had both of them tighter, which would have made them ½ of what they were. Overall I’m happy with the fact that I didn’t panic, which put me in a better mindset to follow my losses with gains.

All trades today were during London hours (I had no trades for the rest of the day).

A fishing story

Went on a day trip fishing this weekend, couldn’t do a backpacking trip because the weather sucked in the afternoons/night. Here is the story:

I woke up at 2:45am to eat and get ready for my fishing trip. Hit the road at about 3:15am, and pulled into the parking spot at about 4:30am. I sat in the truck for about 15 minutes enjoying the sound on the river because it was still very dark out. Once 4:45am hit I grabbed my gear, turned on my headlamp (still couldn’t see past 50 feet), and started on the trail. I’m not even ¼ of the way into my hike when I come upon my 2nd stream crossing, which was wide enough I had to try and jump across. I jump and manage to get 1 foot on the other side, but my other foot didn’t make it and went right into the stream about ½ way up my thigh. I use the dry foot and a willow which I had a hold of to pull myself out. Now my right leg and foot are wet and it’s about 42 degrees (fahrenheit) out, but thankfully I had great boots (made by north face) on and I knew that it was supposed to get warmer and be sunny out later. So I squish my way up the trail, and make it to the point where I have to jump off the trail and bushwhack (there is no trail to the lake). I get a GPS lock, and double check my map to make sure I’m starting in the right spot. Once everything is confirmed I start making my way up the mountain. About ¼ of the way up I see a deer going across the mountain side, but he spoted me 1st so I was unable to get a picture. However, I did get some photos of the senery:

Continuing up the steepest slope I have ever done in my life I took another photo:

Once I was less than ¼ mile from the lake I stopped and took a short video of the stream that comes out of the lake (Click here to see it). I finally arrive at the lake at about 6:15am:

Seeing that the lake is 95% covered in ice I was somewhat bummed because my leg and foot were still wet and now I’m starting to get cold (it’s now about 35-40 degrees fahrenheit and I’m in a t-shirt/jeans). I throw on 1 thermal shirt and a light jacket which warms me up some, but not much. Once the sun hits I take off my boots and socks to dry them out, and rig up a rod/reel with some bait. I sit there fishing for about an hour and start to get really cold (I’m starting to get hypothermia). This is when I decide that I put the fishing on hold and start a small fire. After about 15-30 minutes I finally get a fire started (high altitude + wet wood + scarce wood = not fun to start a fire with lol) and warm up. Once I get my foot and boot dry I put my boot back on. It’s now about 9:00am and I’ve done hardly any fishing so I grab the rod, take off the bobber, and walk onto the rocks. I start fishing with just a hook with a artificial yellow worm on it, casting onto the ice and letting it fall off the edge. On about my 3rd or 4th cast I land this guy:

Now I’m in a really good mood, so I continue to fish. I try the same spot for a little while and got nothing so I moved along the shore and still didn’t get anything. I go back to the same spot and get a few more bites (landed one but he jumped off when I got him close to the rocks), than I catch another fish even bigger than the last one. I continue fishing for awhile, but didn’t get anything so I take one last photo of the fish and head on my way.

I also take 1 more photo of the lake on my way out:

Once I got home I dressed the fish, and had the best dinner in a very long time:

In closing I’d like to thank the lord Jesus for such an awesome trip, and I hope to do it again sometime this year.

Trades for 6-25-09

Today I did +.20% during London hours, no trades in abnormal hours, and +.07% during normal hours. At one point today I was -2.80%, but I didn’t panic and managed to make a slight profit for the day. The mistake I made today was I should have placed my 2 trade above the next resistance line (see chart below). The other thing that happened today is I missed a long at around 11:13amMST.

Trades for 6-22-09, and my backpacking trip

Today I did +1.73% during London hours, and had no trades for the rest of the day.

I didn’t get any fishing in this weekend because the lake was still frozen. The hike in and out was but kicker. It would have normally took me 3-4 hours to get there, but took me about 6 to get in and about 4 to get out. The reason why it was longer was because for the last 2 miles I had to hike through waste deep snow, and because of the snow I couldn’t see the trail so I and had to bushwhack it which put me about 1 mile north of where I wanted to be. So after working my way back toward the lake I reached the top of a finger at about 12,500ft looked out to where the lake was (about ½ a mile away) and could see that the lake was still frozen. Looking around at all the snow I noticed that where I was standing was about the only place I could set up my tent so I decided to set camp and sleep. I woke up the next day in the clouds, and thankfully I had a cell signal so I could look up the weather. It said we were due for some storms so I ate breakfast and started packing up. While I was packing up I had a couple of coyotes howling below me (about 500-1,000ft down the hill) which was cool. I had also run into a coyote on my way in the previous day (got within about 15ft then he ran off). So after packing up I head on down the hill, and when I was about ¾ of the way back to the car I ran into some people on their way in. I told them about the snow and the coyotes I ran into, and went on my way.

Even though the hike was a major but kicker (I lost about 5lbs overnight) and I didn’t get to fish I still had a blast just being out there. I hope the weather is good this next weekend because I plan on going to a lake with better sun exposure which should make it fishable (no ice).

Trades for 6-19-09, and weekly total

For the week I did +3.71% in forex, and had no trades in stocks.

Today I had no trades, and I’m now packed for backpacking. I plan on going to the place I hunted last year (Click here to read about it), and I will leave once I’m done making this post.

For the Friday post I have an article about Obama’s financial overhaul. In my opinion he didn’t need to do this, all he needed to do was enforce the laws we have. There are still plenty of people out there naked short selling, giving out funny loans, etc. They get away with it because the government rather expand and take more power than enforce the laws we already have. It also helps to have bribes from the big wigs at the companies doing the illegal activities (I’m not saying Obama is getting any, I’m saying all the politicians are [republican and democrat alike]). Anyways, enough with my ranting, here is the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090617/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_financial_overhaul

Have a good weekend!

Trades for 6-16-09

Today I did +.55% during London hours, and had no trades for the rest of the day.

The reason I had no trades yesterday is because I was on a trip to Arizona and didn’t get back until about 7pm MST last night. I’m now back from my Arizona trip which was fun (except for the 12-14 hours [one-way] it takes to drive there). Didn’t do much other than go to church, and ate at a great restaurant called “Blue Adobe” (http://www.blueadobegrille.com/, I ate at the Mesa, AZ location) if you visit phoenix be sure to check the place out! The other thing I did was almost melt with the 90F+ temperatures, and the worst part was the air-conditioning in my truck isn’t working. Thankfully I’m back in the mountains now, though I already miss having family near by (I’m now the only person in my entire family [that I know of] that lives in Colorado). However my dad (and maybe my little bro) plans on coming up in July or August for hunting season.

I plan on going backpacking this weekend, and if I do I’ll be sure to post photos. I’m stuck between 2 places, both I’ve been too before. One place I went too for fishing and it was awesome (the fishing was the best I’ve ever had), but the other place I went into was only for a hunt and never got the chance to fish the lake though we bagged an elk and I found a sweet Native American scarper sitting on a rock (see photo below). Which one would you go for? Try the fishing at the place I hunted and look for more Native American trinkets, or go with the place I’ve fished before?

Here is a photo of the Native American scarper I found last year while we were hunting:

For the week I’m +6.96% in forex, and +.15% in my swing trade (DDM).

Today I had no forex trades, and I exited my swing trade in DDM for a small profit.

I didn’t get around to finding something interesting for the Friday post so I’ll just let you know how I’ve been doing since I started trading forex for real. So far in all of my real forex trading my peak was +14.92%, bottom was -6.34%, and I am currently +8.95% on my account (since I started for real on 3-30-09). That means in the past 3 weeks I’ve done +15.29%, which makes me very happy because my goals are 3% a week and right now I’m currently doing about 5%.

My entry was a ¼ size at $30.91 about 15-30mins before the close today, and I’m playing this as a swing trade looking for about $34 as my stopgain.

On a side note, we had a bunch of snow and rain fall yesterday:
